The Eleventh Annual Sussex CITO Event at Seven Sisters Country Park
will take place
09:30 - 12:30
Saturday 21st April 2018
commencing by the parking area at the published co-ordinates.
This event is part of The South Downs GeoTour. You can earn points on your passport for attending this event and helping to support the conservation of the National Park. Don't forget to bring your GeoTour Passport to get it stamped.
This CITO has been organised in conjuction with the South Downs National Park Agency and East Sussex Council. The terrain rating is based on the fact that most of the work is done along the river bank and on the beach, however, there are well-defined paths that are stroller friendly and there is usually some work to be done along these too, so please don't be put off if you need to stick to the paths - I can't put a range and I think most people prefer to get the credit for the hardest it is!
The date also co-incides with Internatiional Cache In Trash Out weekend, so come along and be one of the thousands worldwide who will be helping to make the world a cleaner and tidier place for all to enjoy. Those attending will also get a CITO souvenir on their profile.
Itinerary:-
09:30 Meet at the SSCP car park (N 50° 46.482 E 000° 09.147) parking will be free for participants for the day, Just tell them you are with the CITO Event.
09:45 A short briefing on the 'Health and Safety' aspects of the event.
12.30 Finish our good work and admire what we have achieved! We will return to the car park and make our way to the Pump Barn behind the visitors centre where ther will be a selection of refreshments. See the associated event cache page

Important things :-
I do need to have some idea of numbers , so when posting your 'intention to attend' please indicate how many people are in your party.

(Dogs and Children are welcome but they will need to be kept under control)
What do you need to bring?
Stout walking or Wellington boots, strong gardening gloves and normal walking in the countryside clothing, drinks etc.
Some "litter pickers" will be available but if you have your own please bring with you.
General Information :-
Rubbish containers and transportation of filled bags will be done by the attending rangers

General Advice:
Do not work alone.
Always wear gloves and use litter pickers.
Do not lift anything heavy without help.
Do not touch hazardous items such as needles
Use the right tool for the job.
Keep the work area tidy and safe.
If you do not like the look of it, do not touch it!
Risk Assessment:
Health and Safety Hazard – Person/s at risk – Risk level – Action required by individuals or trust. •
Cuts to fingers from handling broken glass or sharp metal – Volunteers – Low – Wear gloves at all times.
Ensure a first aid kit is on site at all times. • Slipping on banking or slopes, particularly in wet weather –
Volunteers – Low – Ensure no volunteers work alone, do not climb up steep banks. •
Lifting injuries, backs – Volunteers – Medium – Work as a team when faced with heavy objects. •
Tripping over tools or cleared rubbish - Volunteers and; the public – Low –
Ensure all volunteers know how to use and store tools safely.
Designate a tool store area away from the walkway.
Rubbish cleared from the river should be put in a safe place where it does not block the walkway or access for other volunteers. •
Infection from needle – Volunteers – Low –
Instruct all volunteers not to touch a needle if they find one. Inform one of FotC who will arrange collection and disposal of the item(s).

This event includes a special bonus code for the South Downs GeoTour. One of the South Downs National Park rangers will be joining the event to support the clean-up efforts, talk about the hidden gems of the area, and also explain about the GeoTour. You’ll be able to pick up your GeoTour Passport and get started straight away with a bonus stamp to say thank you for all of your efforts in conserving the area.
