Grad Ribnica
Kasneje so Ortenburžani dozidali nova poslopja. V sredini 15. stoletja, so ga zaradi nevarnosti pred Turki obzidali z mogočnim obzidjem in obrambnimi stolpi. Rudeži so bili izobražena meščanska družina.

Obnovili so le dva stolpa in ju medsebojno povezali.

Castle Ribnica
The lordship of Ribnica was first mentioned in the year 1220, the castle itself was mentioned later, in the year 1263. It was probably built at the end of the 11th/beginning of the 12th century. It was built by its first owners, believed to have arrived from Turjak. Later on the Counts of Ortenburg added new buildings and fortified the castle due to the danger of Turkish raids. The castle had a lot of
different owners throughout history - the first mentioned owners from Turjak, the Counts of
Ortenburg, the Counts of Celje, House of Habsburg and others. Its last owner was the family Rudež
from the year 1810 till 1937. They were an educated bourgeois family, who arrived at Ribnica in the
year 1787 as caretakers and then rented the facilities from Counts Cobenzl. The Rudež family
bought the castle and its lands in the year 1810 and it stayed under their ownership up until the year
1937, when Anton Rudež sold the castle to Yugoslavia and moved to the villa of Ugar, near Ribnica,
where his descendants still live today.

During the war the castle served many purposes. At the start it served as the living quarters of the infantry of the Yugoslavian army, in the year 1943 it served as a hospital with dr. Franja Bojc Bidovec and at the end of the war it was damaged and burned down. After the war there was no
interest in rebuilding the castle so they took down the entire castle palace and kept only the ground
plan. They rebuilt and connected two of the defense towers. In the year 1961 the castle premises
were given to the museum of Ribnica and a cafe, which was later on (in the year 1978) replaced by
a wedding chapel. The castle premises now also have a theater, a park of cultural works and since
the 80s it’s also the place of forma viva.
