Geocache Description:

Placed with permission.  This is a place in a small town proving that theater is still alive and well.

This cache is part of the Clearfield County 2012 Geotrail. It features parks and places of recreational activity. Clearfield County is blessed with many opportunities to enjoy yourself in your “off” time. The county is part of the Pennsylvania Wilds, home to millions of acres of unspoiled forests and mountains for hiking, fishing, biking or just watching the wildlife (www.pawilds.com). In addition to hiking and biking Clearfield County features camping, hunting, golfing and the lists goes on. Enjoy a day with the kids at one of the many parks found in our large and small communities. Each cache contains a unique self inking stamp to use in your CCGT passport book. Once you obtain and stamp your passport with 25 finds your passport can be validated for our commemorative coin. Visit www.visitclearfieldcounty.org/outdoors/geotrail for information on where to obtain your passport and how to validate your book to receive your coin.

Theater in Clearfield, PA can be traced back to 1947 with the formation of The Old Town Players, a group that made the band shell at S.B. Elliot State Park their home.  In just a few years, The Old Town Players produced more than 100 plays.  In 1971, The Old Town Players lost their band shell home and disbanded. A new home for the theater was found in 1972 in the basement of the Lutheran Church.  The St. John Studio Theater, a summer theater at first, soon grew to a year-round operation of plays, classes and workshops.

In 1982, The Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre (CAST) was born and became a new home to many area artists and arts supporters.  The building could now house a theatre as well as dance, art and music studios in addition to set, props and costume shops and an office and board room.

The building was renovated largely through thousands of hours of volunteer labor and donations from the community.

Good news! For 2018, we upgraded our geotrail to an official Geocaching GeoTour! Learn more about Pennsylvania's Clearfield County GeoTour, which offers a series of 5 related geocaching adventures: Forgotten Clearfield, Hometown Heroes, Waterways, Cemeteries, and Parks and Recreation. Codes are hidden within each cache. Collect 25 codes from across all 5 series and you qualify for a collectible prize. If you complete all 5 and have your passport validated, you can receive a trackable geocoin.
