Es ist immer wieder schön anzusehen, wie die riesigen Tiere in ihrem wiegenden, fast zeitlupenartigen Gang durch den Busch wandern. Giraffen gelten als die größten Landtiere der Welt. Ausgewachsene Bullen erreichen eine Größe von nahezu 6 Metern bei einer Schulterhöhe von über 3 Metern. Die auffällig gemusterten Tiere sind Baumäser. Fast den ganzen Tag lang sind sie mit der Nahrungssuche beschäftigt. Sie wandern von Baum zu Baum und reißen kleine Zweige und Blätter ab. Ihre bevorzugte Speise ist das Laub der dornigen Akazienbäume. Zum Trinken müssen Giraffen ihre Vorderbeine sehr weit auseinanderspreizen. In dieser Position werden sie manchmal Beute von Löwen, gegen die sie sich ansonsten durch kräftige Schläge mit ihren langen Beinen recht gut verteidigen können.

Giraffen gibt es besonders im Etosha National Park, im Kaokoveld und vielen privaten Wildreservaten und Game Farms zu sehen.

Giraffes are considered the largest land animals in the world. Adult bulls reach a height of almost 6 meters with a shoulder height of over 3 meters. The strikingly patterned animals are Browsers (Herbivores). For most of the day they are busy foraging. They walk from tree to tree and tear off small branches and leaves. Their favourite dish is the foliage of thorny acacia trees. To drink water, giraffes have to spread their front legs very wide. In this position they are sometimes prey of lions; despite the fact that they can usually defend themselves quite well against lions by strong blows with their long legs.

Giraffes are particularly popular in the Etosha National Park, Kaokoveld and many private game reserves and game farms.
