About Salem Old Freight Depot
This is a replacement for a disappearing RR Blues cache place i archived a year ago. Then that cache was placed many years ago the old station buildings near this cache. Here is what the station looked like in 2003:
The Freight station/Railway Post Office building was built with the second passenger station in 1889. It was saved when the passenger depot burned in 1918 and moved slightly south. So it remains to this day. RPO/freight service ended here several decades ago. So the building remains derelict and empty. A new roof was added around 2000, but the facade was covered. Then in 2016 work was started to restore the station, being re-purposed as a bus station. Today the station is basically finished. The depot itself at the time of this writing is not quite open, but the buses to stop here.
There is a lot of activity by the cache, but it can be reached by the sidewalk. Beware of muggles and buses. It is a nano
