Geocache Description:

I was here in Nov 2016 when there was another EC here placed by BigDaddyD. I noticed that he had archived it so I thought I would RE-DO it. This is a facinating area and cachers  should know about it. If you have never been here then this will truly be a treat for for you. If you have been here , well then, WELCOME BACK.

Both pictures as well as the chemical information are taken from a Wikipedia page based on this mineral.

Selenite is a form of gypsum. All varieties of gypsum, including selenite and alabaster, are composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate (meaning that it has two molecules of water), with the chemical formula CaSO4·2H2O. The mineral Selenite is named for the Ancient Greek word for the Moon. Which means "Stone of the Moon".

When you arrive at GZ you will see that the landscape here as well as any crystals you might find do have properties that are moon-like. Selenite is mostly found to be colorless but it can show translucency, opacity, and/or color. This is caused by the presence of other minerals in druse form. That is the crust of tiny, minute crystals that form or fuse either within, or upon the surface of a rock or geode.

The crystals here manifests themselves in ice-like, clear, striated, fine, delicate crystals, and it can grow into either in the v-shape twinning, the fishtail configuration or in a single extended point. This mineral has been used throughout the years for its Healing Properties.

Healing Properties of Selenite

Selenite has a direct effect on the emotional body. However, unlike stones that soothe and calm the emotions, selenite activates the aspect of our nature connected to our true spiritual feeling and path. These crystals are particularly effective in stabilizing the emotional body and bringing erratic emotions under calm control. Selenite is water soluible and will dissolve if left in liquid. This important characteristic is also a great metaphor of the inherent power of the crystal to melt away exaggerated emotions with the stabilizing light force of your “true nature and feeling”.

As stated on the cache page of the previous EC here, The Pink Palace museum in Memphis and the Geology department at the University of Tennessee at Martin conducted a joint geological survey of this property in 2006.

The Crystals landscape here consists of black, very barren rolling mounds with slit trenches that are covered with Selentite as it works its way to the surface.

Permission to visit this sight was given years ago by the property owners, Dr.James Cole and his Wife Melba. Melba states that everyone is most welcome to visit the land and see the amazing selenite deposits. “But don't dig it,” she cautioned. “It forms on top of the ground and it must be gathered.”

To show the educational value of this EC please Email or message me the answers to the 3 required questions.

1) As you have read, Selenite has healing properties, Could you gather what you would need here to give what the Healing Crystals For You Website describes a try?

2)Exam an example of Selenite. Briefly describe what you see.

3)You have read what the name Selenite means, could the example you have found be described the same way?

4) Optional: take a photo of your gps within the same shot of the Selenite field and post it with your log.
