Geocache Description:

The 17th* Annual Indiana Spring Picnic
Brown County State Park
Lower Shelter
May 19, 2018

*We were notified recently that the Spring Picnic tradition actually began a year earlier than we thought, with the Indiana Geo-Caching Picnic (GC5361) in June 2002 hosted by GeoLo, Gridlock, Tagalong, Metagirrl, & IndyDiver.

Schedule:

10:00 am - Registration & ice breaker (sign the log, grab a nametag)
12:00 pm - Lunch (see details below)
12:45 pm - Group photo
1:00 pm - Game prizes awarded & auctions
2:00 pm - Clean up and head out!

*Note: We have the shelter reserved for the whole day and you are more than welcome to hang out. But if you choose to stay at the shelter, we ask that you leave the area clean so we do not incur any surprise clean-up fees.

Pitch-In Lunch:

Plates, plastic ware and napkins will be provided. If you would like to join in, please bring your own entree and drinks, plus a dish to share. If your last name begins with A-M, we ask that you bring a side dish. If your last name begins with N-Z, a dessert is preferred -- this should keep the mix pretty even. The shelter has limited electricity and we will provide a couple of power strips, so crock pots should not be a problem.

NOTE: If you bring an item that needs to be cut up, please do this ahead of time. If your dish requires a serving utensil, please provide your own... we have thrown away TONS of food over the past years because people have no way to serve themselves.

Participation in the pitch-in is absolutely NOT mandatory; but if you choose not to bring a dish, please let others who did bring something line up first. Then after everyone has passed through once, it's a free-for-all!

We will also provide small trash bags and ask that you CITO out your own trash. This event generates quite a lot of garbage, and this minor request helps us enormously.

There should be plenty of picnic table seating, but if you prefer to bring your own chair, please feel free.

Activities:

Closest to the Pin contest will go on from 10am until Noon. Prize awarded after lunch.

A get-to-know-your-neighbor Meet & Greet game will be available. Once your sheet is filled, turn it in for an opportunity to win a prize (awarded after lunch).

One of the highlights is our Celebrity Ammo Box auction. A few cachers/artists will be chosen (secretly!) and their creations will be auctioned off to help recover costs incurred for this event.

We will have a 50/50 raffle available for $1 per ticket -- the winner gets 50% of the total pot, with the other 50% going to recoup costs incurred by the hosts.

For the door prizes: All adults (18+) who attend will receive a door prize ticket -- we have a limited number of door prizes this year, prizes will be announced throughout the day. You must be present to win.

**If you would like to donate items for door prizes or would like to provide an entry for the Celebrity Ammo Box auction, please let us know. All donations are GREATLY appreciated.**

Notes:

There is a gate fee to enter this park: As of 11/19/2017, non-commercial vehicles with Indiana license plates are $7, with out-of-state plates $9. *Please note that this information is current as of the date this event was posted. We will change if needed, but you may also check the Indiana DNR website for the most up-to-date information regarding entrance fees. Thanks to MystRunner for the entry fee update (as of 4/29/18).

Unfortunately this shelter is not ADA accessible. There are approximately 20 steps from parking to the shelter.

Bathrooms are available on site.

A special custom event tag will be available for purchase at the event ($3/each or 2/$5).

We gladly welcome pets at our event. However per park rules, pets must be kept on a leash at all times; and of course, please clean up after your furry friend as needed.

Camping:

Camp sites are now available through the IDNR Reservation website (the event hosts are camping in the Taylor Ridge area, Site 291). Please note that all trailers *must* enter through the west park gate. Also, Brown County SP tends to fill up quickly -- it is a very popular park. So make your camping reservation soon!

A campground map will be uploaded to this page shortly, showing existing reservations. We will update as necessary -- if you would like your site on the map, please post your reserved site number here or on the Facebook event page.

Other Weekend Events:

Friday 7pm -- GC7MGZX hosted by Eye of the Pirate

Sunday 9am -- GC7MF1C hosted by Daggy & Deermark

If you'd like to host an event in the area on the same weekend, please do! More events = more fun!! Let us know about it, and we'll post links to your event here for others to find easily.

The Indiana Spring Picnic also has a page on Facebook. Search for Indiana Geocaching Spring Picnic and please *like* us. Our Spring Picnic events are also posted within this group.
