Since its creation in 1894, the village of Duck Lake has welcomed many immigrants from around the world, including English and French settlers. Until the 1920s, Duck Lake experienced a massive influx of immigration and the community's richness today can be attributed to this.
In 1910, Francophones in the region acquired their first communication tool in French with the creation of the French-language newspaper Le Patriote de l'Ouest. The newspaper was distributed in Western Canada, but also in the United States and France, to attract new settlers.
Duck Lake is also located in one of Saskatchewan's major historic centers. Numerous battles took place around in the surrounding area, including those of Duck Lake, Batoche, and Fish Creek.
The town was also known as Lac-Canard.

Suite à sa création en 1894, le village de Duck Lake a accueilli de nombreux immigrants d’un peu partout à travers le monde, notamment des Anglais et Français. Jusque dans les années 1920, Duck Lake a connu un influx massif d’immigration, ce qui en fait sa richesse aujourd’hui.
En 1910, les francophones de la région se dotent de leur premier outil de communication en Français en créant le journal francophone Le Patriote de l’ouest. Le journal est distribué dans l’ouest canadien, mais aussi aux États-Unis et en France afin d’attirer de nouveaux colons.
Duck Lake est aussi situé dans l’un des centres historiques importants de la Saskatchewan. De nombreuses batailles ont eu lieu alentours, notamment celles de Duck Lake, Batoche et Fish Creek.
La ville à autrefois aussi été connue sous le nom de Lac-Canard.
