CRYSTAL SPRINGS - CANADA150

Around 1860, a small Catholic mission was established, along the Carlton Trail between Winnipeg and Edmonton. The mission served mainly Métis and French-Canadian families. At the time, the mission was called Bonne Eau (Good Water), from which the current name of the village of Crystal Springs was derived.

This was quite a modest mission. The church was built of logs and there were not more than five buildings. In 1902, the authorities decided to move the church to Bonne Madone to better serve the population.

The village of Crystal Springs was created in 1929 when the railway arrived in the area.
