Where the sun sets but kept in the dark.
This cache is part of a series we are creating with cycling in mind. Placed alongside the Downs Link bridleway some 500 metres North of the A272 between Cowfold and the A24 intersection known as Buck Barn.
These caches can, of course, be found on foot but, from wherever you begin your caching journey, you will have to return along the same route or use 2 support vehicles, placing one at another point somewhere along the trail.
There aren't many good caching routes for cycling. Ideally, such a route would be circular but this one is clearly not. Nevertheless, the Downs Link route is popular both for parents with young children learning to ride and other cyclists preferring to stay off the busy roads of south-east England.
We have created a bookmark list of this series, including caches set by other owners nearby along the Downs Link trail, from which you can generate a Pocket Query to download to your GPSr or phone app. We are adding new caches to the list as they are created :) Downs Link Bookmark List
In the description of the list, there is also a link to the Six Stage Route Guide to the Downs Link, created by West Sussex, Surrey and Waverley councils.
There are some good places to join the Downs Link where one can easily leave a vehicle. We have created a parking waypoint at West Grinstead Old Station, which is recognised in the Route Guide as the Downs Link midpoint. This will suit well as a start location for the cache groups heading north from it to Southwater and south towards Partridge Green .
Please note there is a height restriction barrier of 6' 6" (2 metres approx.) at the West Grinstead entrance and a sign advising that the car park gets locked at dusk.
Note: We are also adding other parking locations as the series develops.
