I was walking past GZ with Bohsdee on our way to visit the Dublin Port Company headquarters building. I had noticed the crane once before and wondered where it came from. It definitely wasn't there a few months ago. This time there was also a corten steel wall. As soon as I saw it I thought geocache.
The Dublin Port Company are redeveloping the Alexandra Basin and decided to open the port area to the people of Dublin. The area around the company headquarters building has been opened as a public space incorporating a maritime garden and a plaza in which there is a brilliant installation called The Sphere. I guarantee you will want to take a photo of it. The crane is Stother & Pitt Ltd Engineers #292 and was capable of lifting loads up to 10 tons. It is one of a number of landmarks on a trail the company is setting up. The entrance to the public area is approximately 100m to the left of the wall.
