A small but keen team of Geocachers have now been helping clear some very overgrown hedges in Hucclecote Meadows ready for re-structuring . We've had several goes at this now and are beginning to make a real difference.
The activity is under the supervision of the Local Ranger, Felicity, who will supply the equipment although your own gloves could be useful.
We will be preparing the next section of hedge for laying starting with a clear patch, so will be removing all the rubbishy growth that tends to accumulate in the hedge bottom which would make it difficult to see where you are working. We will cut out any dead wood and prune out any large side branches which are likely to hinder the process of bending and securing the trunks. Then it will be time for the pleaching.
For those who prefer to work off some calories/tension there will be plenty of scrub to clear.
All Health and Safety issues will apply.
This work involves sharp tools and a bonfire as well as the ubiquitous brambles and briars.
Be careful of yourselves and those around you.
Dogs and children need to be under parental control.
Tea and biscuits should be available.
