Le plus vieux vin du monde Traditional Geocache

La cave historique des hospices de Strasbourg est une cave à vin construite entre 1393 et 1395 dans l'enceinte de l'hôpital civil.

Dans cette cave, trois foudres historiques datés du XVe et du XVIe siècles sont protégés derrière une grille. L'un d'entre eux contient encore du vin de 1472 : 300 litres d’un millésime légendaire...

Ce serait le plus vieux vin du monde. Un blanc d’Alsace qui est, sans doute, le plus ancien élevé en foudre (c'est-à-dire en fût de bois).

En 1994, des œnologues ont procédé à un examen organoleptique du millésime. Selon cet examen, ce vin possède une très belle robe brillante, très ambrée, un nez puissant, très fin, d’une très grande complexité, des arômes rappelant « la vanille, le miel, la cire, le camphre, les épices fines, la noisette et la liqueur de fruits... »

Ce vin n'a pu être goûté que dans de grandes occasions, au nombre de trois dans son histoire : en 1576, pour célébrer l’accord d’assistance mutuelle entre Zurichois et Strasbourgeois, en 1718, lors de l’inauguration des nouveaux bâtiments des hospices de Strasbourg, et en 1944, à l’occasion de la libération de la ville par le Maréchal Leclerc.

The historical cellar of the hospices de Strasbourg is a wine cellar built between 1393 and 1395 within the walls of the civil hospital.

In this cellar, three historical casks dating from the 15th and 16th centuries are protected behind a grid. One of them still contains 300 litres of wine from a legendary 1472 vintage...

It could be the oldest wine in the world. A white wine from Alsace, which is undoubtedly the oldest to be aged in wooden cask.

In 1994, oenologists carried out an organoleptic examination of the wine. According to this examination, it has a very beautiful brilliant, very amber colour, a powerful nose, very fine, very complex, with aromas reminiscent of "vanilla, honey, wax, camphor, fine spices, hazelnut and fruit liqueur...".

This wine could only be tasted on great occasions, three in its history: in 1576, to celebrate the agreement of mutual assistance between Zurich and Strasbourg, in 1718, at the inauguration of the new buildings of the hospices de Strasbourg, and in 1944, on the occasion of the liberation of the city by Marshal Leclerc.
