Cette Stèle signalant l’établissement, à partir du 7 août 1944, au lieu-dit Le Chêne Guérin sur la commune du Chefresne, d’un cimetière provisoire américain et allemand.
Dans ce cimetiere 1202 soldats Américains et 1628 soldats Allemands furent enterrés ici.
Le Brigadier General James E. Wharton, Commandant en second de la 9th US Infantry Division fut inhumé dans ce cimetière.
Les douze carrés de tombes étaient répartis également de chaque côté de la route.
Les tombes américaines furent relevées en 1948 et les tombes allemandes demeurèrent jusqu’en 1957.
La stèle fut inaugure en 1994, lors du 50e anniversaire de la Libération.

This Stele indicates the establishment, from August 7, 1944, in a place called Le Chêne Guérin in the town of Chefresne, a temporary American and German cemetery.
In this cemetery, 1202 American soldiers and 1628 German soldiers were buried here.
Brigadier General James E. Wharton, Deputy Commander of the 9th US Infantry Division was buried in this cemetery.
The twelve squares of graves were equally distributed on each side of the road.
The American graves were raised in 1948 and the German graves remained until 1957.
