Le Gisement d’Uranium de Rabejac

Découvert en 1957, ce gisement est exploité entre 1981 et 1990. Durant cette période c’est 72 tonnes d’uraniums qui ont était extrait.  Il ne reste aujourd’hui plus de trace de la mine à ciel ouvert. Cette dernière fut l’une des premières en France à être rendu à la nature. En effet en 1994 elle a était entièrement rebouché et réhabilité pour se fondre dans le paysage.

L’uranium est présent naturellement sur terre à raison de 2,7g/tonne dans la croute terrestre. Ce qui correspond à un millier de milliards de tonne pour l’ensemble de la terre. Malgré cette abondance il n’est souvent pas rentable d’exploité ce minerai. On l’exploite uniquement lorsqu’il est à une concentration plus importante. Pour la mine de Rabejac cette concentration est de 8Kg/tonne. Cette concentration est due au bassin sédimentaire de Lodève daté du Permien. Grâce à l’érosion naturelle des rivières cela a concentré l’uranium dans le bassin. La minéralisation en uranium y apparait essentiellement sous forme de pechblende et de coffinite.

Au waypoints 1 il reste encore de l’uranium non extrait. Cet uranium émet de la radioactivité naturelle à raison de 4 µSv/h. Selon la norme publique, le taux d’exposition est de 1 milli sieverts par an. Selon cela vous ne pouvez pas rester plus de 250h et cet endroit. Mais cette valeur n’est qu’une précaution puisque les effets visibles ou les troubles n’apparaissent qu’à partir de 500 milli sieverts.

Discovered in 1957, this deposit was mined between 1981 and 1990. During this period, 72 tons of uranium were extracted. There is no longer any trace of the open pit mine. The latter was one of the first in France to be returned to nature. Indeed in 1994 it was completely refilled and rehabilitated to blend into the landscape.
