Valensole et son plateau, de près de 12.700 hectares est surtout connu pour ses champs de blé et de lavande sur fond de montagnes enneigées et de ciel bleu.
On y trouve pourtant 4 types de terrain:
• Les prairies ou pelouses, constituées de plantes herbacées annuelles, berceau douillet des Ophrys, petites orchidées du pourtour méditerranéen.
• La garrigue formée de petits buissons bas de plantes aromatiques.
• Le maquis, domaine d'espèces arbustives ou buissonnantes, en général piquantes.
• Les bois et forêts, dominés par le chêne vert et le pin d'Alep.
Attention cependant, la saison de floraison des lavandes en juin-juillet est aussi celle où les abeilles butinent le plus et celles-ci peuvent être parfois agressives si elles sont dérangées dans leur travail ou aux abords des nombreuses ruches.
Le cyprès est une variété d'arbres sempervirents (à feuillage persistant) de la famille des Cupessacées originaires des régions tempérées chaudes de l'hémisphère nord. C'est un conifère. Le nombre d'espèces incluses dans ce genre varie selon les auteurs de 16 à 31, voire plus. De nombreuses espèces sont cultivées comme arbres d'ornement et le cyprès commun est un arbre représentatif de la flore méditerranéenne, l'arbre des cimetières, symbole du deuil dans le monde méditerranéen mais aussi près d'un abri d'ouvriers agricoles comme ici.

Be careful though, the season of flowering lavender in June-July is also the one where the bees forage the most and these can be sometimes aggressive if they are disturbed in their work or in the vicinity of the many hives.
Cypress is a variety of evergreen (evergreen) trees of the Cupessaceae family originating from the warm temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. It's a conifer. The number of species included in this genus varies according to authors from 16 to 31, or even more. Many species are grown as ornamental trees and the common cypress is a representative tree of the Mediterranean flora, the cemetery tree, symbol of mourning in the Mediterranean world but also near a shelter of agricultural workers like here.
