Mélanie Chabot

Mélanie Chabot was the wife of Edmond Chabot and a member of one of the three families, the Chabots, the Fourniers and the Fauchons, who founded town of Ferland in 1910.

At a time when the nearest hospital was a long way away from rural municipaities, Mélanie Chabot earned the name "mother of the parish". Everyone in Ferland did their part for the good of the community and Mélanie, a mother herself, became the region's midwife. Summer or winter, she never refused her aid, seeing over a hundred children in the area into the world.

Mélanie Chabot led a busy life, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She died in 1939, at the age of 72.

Mélanie Chabot

Épouse d’Edmond Chabot, Mélanie Chabot fait partie des trois familles, Chabot, Fournier et Fauchon, fondatrices de la municipalité de Ferland en 1910.

À cette époque où les hôpitaux sont loin des petites municipalités rurales, Mélanie Chabot mérite bien son nom de « maman de la paroisse ». Comme tout le monde à Ferland met la main à la pâte pour le bien-être de la communauté, Mélanie, elle-même mère de famille, devient la sage-femme de la région. Été comme hiver, elle ne refuse jamais son aide et elle aide plus d’une centaine d’enfants de la région à voir le jour.

Mélanie Chabot aura une vie bien remplie entourée de ses enfants et petits-enfants. Elle décède en 1939, à l’âge de 72 ans.
