Please note that there will likely be a small charge for access, access may be altered during festivals, and on occasions when the sea is very rough, the boardwalk may be closed and the water blow impossible to view. At the posted coordinates you will see a Water Blow signboard. The water blow phenomenon has become a popular tourist destination in Bali. This EarthCache investigates the distinction between the water blow here and a blowhole in term of geological perspective.
Blowhole
In geology, a blowhole is formed as a sea cave grow landwards and upwards into a vertical shaft and expose itself towards the surface, which can result in blasts of water from the top of the blowhole if the geometry of the cave and blowhole and state of the weather are appropriate.
How to claim this EarthCache?
Before proceeding to collect the answers, make sure to protect your electronics from unpredictable splashes and sprays. The chances of getting drenched are high.
1. From the posted coordinates, go to waypoint Water Blow and look north. You will see a limestone cliff and the entrance of the water blow. Take the GPS elevation of the waypoint.
2. Send us an email with "Bali Water Blow" on the subject line, and include the answers to the following questions.
A. What is your GPS elevation of the waypoint Water Blow in meters?
B. Describe what is the mechanism of the water blow i.e. how it works?
C. Distinguish this mechanism with that of a blowhole.
D. Using the GPS elevation at the waypoint Water Blow, estimate the height of the water blast during a water blow.
3. If you are unable to view the water blow, write us an email explaining the circumstance and make an attempt to answer the questions with the information given in the listing.
4. When logging, include at least one photo to prove you were there (compulsory).*
