At this location you will find yourself at the spot where the Gudgenby river gouged its way through! In fact, on the 3rd December 2010, it gouged out the entire bridge! This made it impossible for the 60 odd families, who make up the Smiths Rd community to get across the river! Supplies had to be brought in by helicopter. A temporary "Bailey bridge" was erected in March 2011, and a completely new bridge, at a cost of $2 million was completed in November 2104.
The original bridge, build in 1930 had survived numerous floods, but it was reported that the government willow tree removal program had been a contributing factor in this bridge being washed away on this occasion.
