Gold and Iron 2: The never published cache.

About a year after we started caching (2010), we found a puzzle cache in a library not too far from our sons home. We were enchanted by the idea of this cache, and vowed we would put one in our neighborhood library as well. It took Robbit about 5 months to build a book from a hollow shell and shortly thereafter we had our new cache approved. “The Cache” was active for two years and in that time accumulated 68 finds and 21 favorite points.
In the intervening 4 years we have created 5 additional caches in local Virginia libraries, as well as one near our winter home in Florida. The latest was placed and published this weekend at the Chinn Library in Prince William County. A few days after it published we received a phone call that they had found another geocache book hidden on their shelves and they didn’t know what to do with it.
We visited the library today to retrieve the duplicate book. It was the “sister cache” to the first book we had found five years ago. The cache had been placed on the shelves but never published because there was another puzzle cache too close by. The cacher who placed the book never retrieved it from the shelves in the hope that the interfering cache would go inactive.
In the interim he had moved to another state and forgotten his book. So here we are, First to Find on an unpublished 6 year old geocache. It contained 2 TB’s (one belonging to the cache owner) which will shortly be resuming their journeys; and we are awaiting instructions from the original cache owner to see if he wishes his book returned or if we need to find another library in need of a unique cache.
