Geocache Description:

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. More information can be found at the SideTracked website sidetracked.info

Update: due to renovations at the station the original plaque used in this cache has been removed. Please see the new cache listing and calculations below.

A simple multi cache a short walk from the station. As it may not be immediately obvious how to access the final location, there is an option to calculate an intermediate stage (trailhead) which will help point the way through the residential area. Parking is very limited by the station as it is itself in a residential area, so please be respectful and considerate to locals in parking should you choose to drive to this cache. Wheelchair users should be able to get to GZ but may need help in reaching the final cache hide.

The final GZ is VERY muggle heavy, so please be discreet when retrieving, and make sure the cache is well hidden when you replace it, with camouflage if possible.

If you can, it's worth timing your visit so that you can watch a train passing the final location (quarter to and quarter past the hour - MOST of the time, but no service on Sundays), the drivers are very friendly on this line and usually wave at passersby - often they'll toot the horn as well. We have spent a great deal of time with all of our geokids entertained in this way!

Coryton station on the Coryton branch line just north of Cardiff opened in March 1911 as Coryton Halt and was given its current name in 1969. Originally the line continued further south to destinations including Nantgarw and Rhydfelin, but the line was closed beyond this point in 1952. Periodically plans have been proposed to reopen the line, but none have ever come to fruition.

The listed co-ordinates will take you to one of the station entrances. On the shelter (up high) there is a small label with the name of the design/manufacture company, and a phone number. Please see the attached photo in the gallery to illustrate what you’re looking for. (Note there are two identical labels, one at each end of the shelter, one is clearer and easier to read than the other.)

Assume the phone number is ABCDE FGHJKL and use the following formula to calculate the final co-ordinates and optional trailhead.

Final - N51 KH.(D-B)(J-H)(D-B)     W003 HK.(E+B)HC

Trailhead - N51 DH.(B+L)AE     W003 HJ.(E+L)B(B+L)

Happy caching!
