Geocache Description:

Loughborough Carillon is a carillon and war memorial in Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. It is in Queen's Park, and is a well-known landmark, visible from several miles away. It is 152 feet (46 m) high.

Plans were finalised in 1919 and when completed in 1923 it was the first grand carillon in England, the concept being associated with Belgium where so many British servicemen lost their lives during the 1914–1918 Great War. The Carillon was designed by Sir Walter Tapper, and is now grade II listed The carillon has 47 bells, all of which were cast at John Taylor Bell Foundry in Loughborough. The carillon was built by William Moss and Sons Ltd of Loughborough.

To log this virtual task - 3 tasks need to be performed

PART 1 At the indicated co-ords there are a number of plaques on the wall. look for the 3 smallest and message the number of letters on each in any order ( i.e. 10,12,14 ) using the geocaching message facility.

PART 2 - GOOD FRIDAY TO 30TH SEPTEMBER ONLY You will be required to enter the tower ( note the opening times ) and climb up nearly all the stairs to the Bell Balcony, this is the flat platform internally within the tower. Note the first bell as you turn to your left up the last flight of wooden stairs - message me with name of the person who's gift the bell was. Please note this cache is only accessible 5 months of the year and optionally by private group tours , it is also open on specific memorial days - please contact the museum for group tours and opening dates / times.

PART 2 OUTSIDE OF THE ABOVE TIMES ONLY - 1ST OCTOBER TO GOOD FRIDAY - Find the other metal plaque affixed to the structure on the ground floor, it has 11 lines of text - send the 2 latin words on it from line 10

PART 3 - GOOD FRIDAY TO 30TH SEPTEMBER On the bell platform, take a photo of the other bells in the lineup, with your GPS in hand and in picture or other unique caching item or body part ( avoiding the bell you just looked at to get the name ) you are not required to go onto the outside of the tower as I appreciate some people are nervous at doing this. PLEASE where possible allow EXIF information to be sent with your photo , this will help verify authenticity for your log , IE: time , date and coordinates.

PART 3 OUTSIDE OF THE ABOVE TIMES ONLY - 1ST OCTOBER TO GOOD FRIDAY - stand on the bridge around 40 metres from the tower to the east ( if your not sure which direction east is, stand with your back to the door at the base of the tower and walk until you reach it ) and take a photograph of the tower with your GPS in hand or other unique caching item or body part and add this to your log.

The Carillon Tower and War Memorial Museum is open from Good Friday until 30th September, every day except Monday, 1pm until 4.30pm. Organised tours are welcome throughout the year outside normal opening hours

The ground floor museum is free; adults pay £1.00 (concessions 50p) to access the upper floors, the bell chamber and the balcony. Children can access all areas free of charge but must be accompanied by an adult on the upper floors.
