Muralla de Avila
La muralla de Ávila es una cerca militar románica que rodea el casco antiguo de la ciudad española de Ávila, capital de la provincia homónima, en la comunidad autónoma de Castilla y León.
El casco antiguo, la muralla y las iglesias situadas extramuros han sido declaradas Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Las murallas son el símbolo universal y monumento más destacado que acoge la ciudad de Ávila. Su importancia se deriva por ser el recinto amurallado medieval mejor conservado de España y probablemente de toda Europa.
La muralla tiene un perímetro de 2516 metros, 2500 almenas, 87 cubos o torreones y 9 puertas. Ocupa una superficie de 33 hectáreas y conforma un rectángulo orientado de este a oeste. Sus muros tienen 3 metros de grosor y 12 de altura. Para su trazado se aprovecharon los desniveles del terreno y no se construyeron ni taludes ni contrafuertes. La piedra es granito gris y negro, dependiendo del origen de la misma. También se utilizó el ladrillo, el mortero y la cal.
Para su construcción no hubo problema en utilizar piedra proveniente del desmantelamiento de estructuras anteriores. Es por ello que se aprecian tantas piedras con orificios centrales (son cistas donde se depositaban las cenizas de los difuntos), estelas (se disponían encima de los enterramientos) o esculturas zoomorfas (de origen vettón,los pobladores de la zona antes de la llegada de los romanos y asimilados por estos últimos).

Las coordenadas del cache te situán en una de las paredes de la muralla entre dos torreones o cubos.

Walls of Ávila
The Walls of Ávila are Roman fortifications which enclose the old town of Ávila, capital of Ávila province, in Castilla y Leon Autonomus Region.
The old town of Ávila, the walls and its extramural churches have been designated UNESCO World Heritage sites, the walls being a universal symbol and Ávila's principal historic feature. It's also the best preserved walled enclosure in Spain and probably in Europe.
The wall has a perimeter of 2.516 metres, including 2.500 merlons, 87 semicircular towers and 9 gates. It encloses a rectangular area of 33 hectares oriented from east to west. The walls are 3 metres wide and 12 metres high. Due to the uneveness of the ground, no abutments were needed and the stone used is granite, grey or black according to its origin, together with brick, limestone and mortar.
Many ancient stones come from earlier Roman buildings that were taken down. This is the reason why some stones seem to be out of place, such as cists (holes carved in stone where ashes of the dead were placed), steles (positioned above the burial site) and animal sculptures (Vetton origin; The Vettons were the indigenous people who inhabited the area before the Romans, these latter having an open attitude to Vetton culture).
