Geocache Description:

IMPORTANT:
This is a virtual cache, and as such there is no physical container. Instead, you need to visit the location and complete the logging tasks detailed below, then email your answers to me through my profile or the Message Center. After 24 hours of you logging a find, if I haven't received any answers then your log could be at risk of being deleted.

One of the things I love best about caching is visiting new places. Perhaps those that show me some interesting history, or a stunning view, or perhaps it's somewhere I wouldn't've visited otherwise? The coast, in particular, is a favourite place of mine to cache, and as such I came across this stunning location, at the top of Sharp Tor, while out walking and caching.

I was amazed there was no cache here already, as - well - what a stunning view! A little far for me to maintain a physical cache, but... what about the Virtual Reward? It's been dormant in my unpublished caches as I have thought of ideas, started composing a cache page and then put it away again, convinced I could come up with a better idea. Ideally I wanted it closer to home, but I couldn't let this location go without a cache, and besides the South Hams has no virtual caches as of yet.

To log this cache as found you firstly need to find ten letters:

At the headline coordinates, on the toposcope:

  • 3rd letter of the place marked which is exactly 100 miles closer than Cherbourg.
  • 9th letter of the marked place which is almost due north.
  • 1st letter of the furthest place marked.
  • 1st letter of the place marked almost due West.
  • 1st letter of the name of the island (not the town) which is 77 miles away.

Next continue to the second waypoint where you will find a plaque featuring a four-line poem:

  • 1st letter of 2nd word
  • Last letter on first line
  • 2nd letter of 1st word
  • Last letter on second line
  • 3rd letter of 3rd word on last line

Once you have the ten letters, unscramble them to form a word related to the sea. To claim your find, you need to email this word to me through my profile, or through the Message Center. Simples!

A photo of yourself or GPS device with the view of Salcombe in the background would be appreciated but is by no means compulsory. Please DO NOT upload photos that show any of the information required for this cache.

Here's a sneak peek at part of the panorama from GZ - make sure you choose a sunny day for it!

Cache placed with kind permission from the National Trust.
