Montagne de Bueren. Avec ses 374 marches et une inclinaison qui atteint 30 %, la montagne de Bueren est reconnue comme l'un des dix plus extraordinaires escaliers au monde. Constamment ouvert au public, ce site fait partie des lieux incontournables de la ville de Liège. Ouvrage d’art caractéristique des percées du XIXe siècle, la montagne de Bueren permettait de relier directement la caserne de la citadelle au centre-ville. Cette volée d’escaliers rappelle par son nom le coup de force avorté des 600 Franchimontois. Menés par Vincent de Bueren et Gossuin de Streel, ils tentèrent de capturer Charles le Téméraire et Louis XI durant la nuit du 29 octobre 1468. Et contrairement à ce que pensent de nombreux Liégeois, les 600 Franchimontois ne sont jamais passés par cet endroit …

Montagne de Bueren. Met zijn 374 treden en een hellingshoek van bijna 30% staat de Montagne de Bueren bekend als een van de extreemste trappen ter wereld. Deze plek, altijd toegankelijk voor het publiek, is een van de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden van de stad Luik. De Montagne de Bueren werd in de 19e eeuw aangelegd en verbindt de kazerne van de citadel met de stad. De naam van deze enorme trap verwijst naar de couppoging van de 600 Franchimontezen. Onder leiding van Vincent de Bueren en Gossuin de Streel probeerden ze in de nacht van 29 oktober 1468 Karel de Stoute en Lodewijk XI gevangen te nemen. En in tegenstelling tot wat veel Luikenaren denken, zijn de 600 Franchimontezen nooit via deze plek gepasseerd.

Montagne de Bueren. Mit 374 Treppen und einer Steigung von 30 % gehört die Montagne de Bueren zu den zehn außergewöhnlichsten Treppen der Welt. Sie ist ein Highlight der Stadt Lüttich und zu jeder Stunde zugänglich. Als Beispiel für die Kunst der Durchbrüche im 19. Jh. ermöglichte die Montagne de Bueren die direkte Verbindung der Kaserne der Zitadelle zum Stadtzentrum. Ihr Name erinnert an einen Gewaltstreich von 600 Männern aus Franchimont. Angeführt von Vincent van Bueren und Goswin de Streel hatten diese in der Nacht des 29. Oktober 1468 versucht, Karl den Kühnen und Louis XI. zu überfallen. Und anders als viele Lütticher glauben, sind die 600 Franchimontois nie an dieser Stelle vorbeigekommen…

Permanently open to the public, this site is among the unmissable locations in the city of Liège. A work of art that’s characteristic of 19th-century breakthroughs, the mountain of Bueren enabled a direct link between the barracks at the citadel and the city centre. The name of this flight of stairs recalls the aborted coup by the 600 Franchimontois. Led by Vincent de Bueren and Gossuin de Streel, they attempted to capture Charles the Bold and Louis XI during the night of 29 October 1468. And contrary to what many Liège residents believe, the 600 Franchimontois never passed by this place...
