Porta Nigra - The Black Gate

Als Trier noch Augusta Treverorum hieß benötigte man Stadttore. Vier waren es einmal - drei (Porta Alba - weißes Tor, Porta Inclyta - prächtiges Tor und Porta Media - mittleres Tor) sind nicht mehr erhalten, die Porta Nigra jedoch hat den damaligen Steinraub überstanden und ist heute ein Kulturgut nach der Haager Konvention, sowie ein Teil des UNESCO-Welterbes Römische Baudenkmäler, Dom und Liebfrauenkirche in Trier.
Erbaut um 180 n. Chr. - damals noch als Porta Martis (Marstor) bekannt - wurde die Porta Nigra nie komplett fertiggestellt. Erbaut aus dem nahgelegenen Kordeler Sandstein hatte die Porta Nigra damals noch keine schwarze/dunkle Färbung - sondern diese setzte erst mit der Zeit durch Witterungs- und Umwelteinflüsse ein, welche dem Stadttor dann auch seinen heutigen Namen gab. |

Once, as Trier was still name Augusta Treverirum there was a need to city gates. They build four, three of them (Porta Alba - white gate, Porta Inclyta - magnificent gate und Porta Media - middle gate) are not existing anymore, only the Porta Nigra survived the stone robbery at that time and is nowadays a cultural asset according to the Haager Konvention and as well a part of the UNESCO-World Heritage Site "Roman Monuments, Cathedral of St. Peter and Church of Our Lady in Trier".
Build around 180 AD - at this time still know as POrta Martis (Marsgate) the Porta Nigra was never completed. Build from the nearby Kordeler sandstones the Porta Nigra didn't have a black/dark coloration, this was caused over time due to atmospheric and environment influences has given the present name. |

Ich könnte an dieser Stelle nun komplizierte Vorgaben machen oder euch verschiedene Dinge zählen und suchen lassen - aber ich habe mich entschieden den Virtual Reward so klassisch wie möglich zu halten, so dass auch viele Touristen und Besucher eine Möglichkeit haben den Cache an dieser historischen Stelle zu besuchen.

At this point i could make complicated guidelines, or let you count and search different things - but i've decided to keep this virtual reward as traditional as possible, so that also many tourists and visitors have the possibility to visit the geocache this historical place.

- Lasse den Trackable Trier betreten indem du durch die Porta Nigra über die historische Stadtgrenze gehst.
- Mache ein Foto mit einem Trackable hinter der Porta Nigra (bei ca. N 49 45.570 E 006 38.631)
- Lade beide Fotos zu deinem Log hoch - oder schicke mir diese per Message Center.

- Let the trackable enter Trier by going through the Porta Nigra over the historic city border.
- Take a picture with a trackable behind the Porta Nigra (bei ca. N 49 45.570 E 006 38.631)
- Upload both pictures to your log - or send them via the message center to me.
