The VIRTUAL BOND has been chosen as a symbol for what is connecting us: Geocaching. This is not only about boxes, containers, points and logs. It's about people and experiences. This VIRTUAL BOND is helping us to discover our planet, to espy new things, to make new experiences and friendships. It makes us travel around - maybe even far enough to find and meet ourself... |
> The idea and how this project started
"If you draw a line between all the people's logs, so how long will this line actually be?", we've asked ourselves. This was a nice idea, and we wanted to showcase this by a short movie (2 min, 480p/41 MB) where some of the top geocachers worldwide should contribute. We were overwhelmed by the support we received. A big thanks to DizzyPair (UK), Everlasting (AU), Mini Furmi (ES), iPajero (ZA), racer2814 (US), r.lkönig (AT), salz69 (US), The Huskies (ZA), Turbo-7 (JP) and Wes_and_Tara (US). These geocachers had in total about 375.000 own find logs and more than 2.300 own hides at the time of publish. |
> Logging THE VIRTUAL BOND. Let it grow!
This cache can be logged by meeting the log requirement with 3 easy steps.
Step 1: Post a picture of a place near the origin/header coordinates of the VIRTUAL BOND (e.g. the sundial near the header coordinates or the recently planted linden trees to comply with Groundspeaks's rules for Virtual Caches)
Step 2: Note the GPS coordinates of your favorite home location (e.g. any scenic place you would recommend to visit in your home town) and calculate the approximate distance from the previous log's GPS coordinates to the GPS coordinates (metric in kilometers!) of your chosen favorite home location. Add this value to the current length of THE VIRTUAL BOND to let it grow!
Step 3: Add to your log the information as indicated below in the example (e.g.: copy & paste and adapt accordingly)
Adding a picture of your hand and a friend's hand showing a 'geocaching high five' would be really great - but this is not mandatory.

Hints:
- If you do not have an app to calculate distances between GPS locations, you can use one of the many online tools and helpers in the net.
Just take care that you use the right entry format(s) and the metric distance in kilometers.
- It's our intention to let the band grow. Incomplete or incorrect logs cannot be accepted, and hence, must be deleted to maintain THE VIRTUAL BOND.
If you cannot effort a visiting ticket, you may also take a picture close the header coords at the entrance.
Log this cache ONLY, when you are able to provide ALL information which is required as a prerequisite. If you need to log this cache somehow later, you may provide a log at the date you have been there PLUS a write note with the complete information!
