Filoli, pronounced Fie-Lowly, is an historic 56-room mansion or country house and estate in Woodside, California. It is surrounded by 16 acres of beautifully maintained gardens. The house was built in the early twentieth century in a predominantly English Georgian style. The gardens are spectacular and include a wide variety of trees, flowers, plants and garden architecture. The displays vary throughout the year. Visitors can tour the garden and the house. Both are wheelchair-accessible. It has a gift shop and cafe in the Visitor Center. Events such as concerts are held there and it can be reserved for private events. In 2023 it was the site of the Biden - Xi Summit meeting. Before that it was perhaps best known as the set for the Carrington Mansion on the television show Dynasty. As of this writing it is open Tuesday through Sunday 10AM to 5PM (admission closes at 4:30).
A fee is charged to tour the grounds and house, but the public can enter the main parking lot and visit the cafe for free. In order to avoid requiring geocachers to pay admission to claim this cache, my logging requirements can be done by visiting the entrance to the visitor center. However, if you do not go in and tour the gardens, you are only cheating yourself. To log the cache post a picture with your log that shows you were there. It doesn't have to be inside the grounds. I would love a picture of you or your caching partner there, but you do not have to include yourself in the photo. I encourage you to post other photos of the gardens or house with your log.
