In 1946, YWCA Edmonton decided to select a permanent location for their camp. They chose 48.6 acres of land on the Coral Point Peninsula of Wabamun Lake. YoWoChAs Camp officially opened in 1953 with 4 cabins, an ice house with a power unit and a cook shack. It wasn’t until 1981 that camping programs operated seasonally.
The name YoWoChAs was created by a child camper and is made up of the first two letters of the words Young Woman’s Christian Association.
Camp YoWoChAs is a year round education centre and summer camp. They provide the opportunity for children to be outside, learn about nature and about themselves through in the process.
