Geocache Description:

This Multi-cache will take you to an historic site as well as a very popular location within the Chobe National Park.  Park fees are payable.

The abandoned building you will see a few metres from the low key tucked away gravesite, where the published co-ordinates will take you, was the house of the foreman at the nearby sawmill in what was the settlement of Serondella.  The grave is that of the foreman William "Pop" Lamont, who died in 1974.  Serondella existed at the time before the Chobe National Park was formed, and basically consisted of the sawmill, a general store, an airstrip and a few houses for the managers and workers of the sawmill.  The sawmill operated in the late 1950's, predominately processing the teak harvested from surrounding forest, hence the roads that are now game-driving roads that uniformly cut away at right angles from the river up the sand ridge.  In the late 50's the viable teak has all but been harvested out, and so it was decided that in order to protect the wildlife of the area a National Park would be formed.  In order for this to happen the town of Serondella was moved to the present day Kasane, and the process of dismantling Serondella began.  At that time Pop Lamont was not a well man, and so his house was left to last, but finally the time came for his eviction.  By this time Pop Lamont was now seriously ill and is reputed to have met the officials at the door armed with a shotgun and vowing never to leave and to die in his home.  Discussions took place, including consulting with doctors who gave Pop Lamont only a very short time to live, and so it was decided to make a written exception into the new park rules and allow Pop Lamont to live out his last days inside the newly formed National Park.  With this ruling in place Pop Lamont remained at his house seriously ill for many months, before slowly making a recovery, and eventually going on to live a long life, enjoying the peace amongst all the animals, because in those days there were very few tourists!

Use the information on the gravestone in order to be able to locate the cache site.  NB - park rules forbid you to leave your vehicle at the gravesite, but the game-driving track passes right alongside, and so for the keen eyed you will no problem reading the inscription - otherwise try using binoculars or looking through the zoom lens of your camera to obtain the information needed in order to be able to obtain the final co-ordinates:

A = The number of words in the first line of the gravestone inscription.
B = The number of letters in first word on the last line of the gravestone inscription.
C = The number of lettters in the third word of the first line of the gravestone inscription minus the number of letters in the first word of the same line.
D = The last number of the year of birth plus the first number of the year of death.
E = The number of initials at the bottom right corner of the gravestone.
F = The last number of the year of death plus the first number of the year of birth.

We had given this cache a higher difficulty rating as it is was very well camoflagued and well hidden just slightly away from where most muggles will gather, but due to too many DNF's we have reduced the difficulty level, especially as we had to assist the only three finders before reducing the difficult level - so they can't really complain!  NB - No armchair loggers! - we will be checking and will delete all Found It logs where there is no corresponding signature in the log book! No sign, no stamp, no photo proof, no smilie! Enjoy!
