What: 8.5 Mile Kayak / Canoe Paddle
Where: Alexander Springs, Ocala National Forest
After an amazing weekend of Fun, Finds, Food and Fellowship, nothing beats a good paddling!
We are planning the launch time a bit later than usual, to accommodate folks otherwise engaged early that morning.
Clan Riffster will be the host for this event, so feel free to ask him any questions you might have.
His plan is to enter the park (Alexander Springs Recreational Area/posted coordinates), around 9:45am, pay the $6 launch fee, drop off his kayak, schmooze for a bit, then shuutle as many cars as possible, to the takeout point. Alexander does not provide a shuttle service any more, so we gotta do this ourselves. With the shuttle taken care of, we'll head back to Alexander, where boats will hit the water. The rules for this run are fairly strict, so please make note of them. Disposable containers are forbidden, and all boats are subject to search. This means no water bottles, or snack wrappers, of any sort. It is so bad, Riffster had to remove the label from a banana on one trip. I recommend bringing water in Nalgene jars, and snacks, with no wrappers, in Lock & Lock containers.
It is recommended that you have lots of water, snackage, sun screen, a long sleeve shirt, a wide brim hat, a dry box, a GPS, a waterproof camera, and a pokey stick. If you do not have a boat, and want to paddle, you can usually rent one from the park for a nominal fee. Or, you can ask other attendees, if they have a spare boat you can borrow. If you wish to attend, without paddling, you are always welcome. You can meet us at the launch, and schmooze, helping us haul boats, and/or, meet us at the landing for schmoozing and boat hauling. If you do leave your car at the landing, please don't leave any valuables in it. The landing is fairly remote, and there have been break ins, in the past. Hope to see you there!
