Congratulations, Aix sponsa!!
10,000 finds is quite an accomplishment!
Pronounced "āks spänsä", it's Latin for "showy North American duck that nests in hollow trees". I have seen Aix sponsa in hollow trees, looking for caches. She's a little leery of flying (ironic, right?), but she's an excellent swimmer (sorry about the canoe!). She will climb trees, walk on ice (even when she shouldn't), and explore culverts of any size. Mud? No problem! I'm not sure how she has any shoes left, with all the mud she's traversed! She's fearless--she's not afraid of snakes or spiders, or anything else I can think of, for that matter. She will cache around the clock, the dark doesn't seem to bother her at all. She will drink coffee at 11pm, and then sleep like a log. She's funny and laughs a lot. It has been such a pleasure getting to know her! Congrats on your achievement, Mary!
When you log your find, feel free to mention a story of when you met or cached with Mary, or maybe about one of your favorite Aix sponsa caches. She's hidden well over 100 caches, so you've probably found a few.
