Tania's Wood
Bickfield Lane,
Ubley
Sunday 24th September 2017 (11am to 3pm)
Tania's Wood is a narrow wood of around 2 acres on the southern slopes of the Mendip Hills (AONB) to the north of Ubley.
The wood was donated to the Mendip Society as a Local Nature Reserve by the late Glynn England in memory of his wife Tania.
Last year we had a CITO event there and Judith Tranter from the Mendip Society organised experts to help and show us countryside skills. The geocachers coppiced hazel trees and learnt how charcoal is made. (link to previous event)
Please come along and see the changes to the wood since our last CITO event here and the difference made by the Mendip Society in their first year of managing the wood.
There will be the opportunity to help with several woodland management tasks which could include: coppicing, wood clearing, path restoration (details of actual tasks to be finalised) - all required tools will be provided (please bring your own gardening gloves).
Bring along a picnic lunch and drinks - and a camping chair and make a day of it
(Our base will be located further into the wood this year - so just head over the footbridge and follow the path)
We hope to have a camp fire burning this year
There aren't any facilities, but a compost loo will be available
The GAGB
The Geocaching Association of Great Britain (GAGB) was established in 2003 to provide a national geocaching organisation and serve as a UK point of contact for geocachers, landowners, the media and others with an interest in geocaching.
As part of it's 10th anniversary in 2013, it was decided to hold a CITO weekend in September which has now become an annual event. There is a lot more information about what we do, including the landowner database, comprehensive event listings and forums at www.gagb.org.uk If you would like to get involved follow the link and find our contact details.
