A cidade localizada no alto da serra do Espinhaço, uma das mais antigas formações geológicas do Brasil, está na entrada do Vale do Jequitinhonha. Apresenta extenso planalto irregular onde apenas 20% da área é plana, 20% ondulada e 60% montanhosa. Essa característica peculiar do município favorece o surgimento de belas cachoeiras com grandes desníveis que podem ultrapassar a uma centena de metros.
A vista que se tem do local da cache não poderia ser diferente de uma formação geológica única, o campo rupestre com sua vegetação representada por árvores de baixo porte e tortuosas, belas plantas que surgem entre as rochas e as montanhas ao fundo embelezam o esconderijo!
