När Vaxholm sedan skulle ombildas till stad på 1600-talet så bestämdes att en större kyrka skulle byggas.
Exakt var den var placerad är okänt. Men från ett koppastick går det att ana att kyrkan fanns placerad nära Kastellsundet.

Känt är i alla fall att ett blixtnedslag förstörde kyrktornet 1735. 11 år senare var kyrkans skick så dåligt att inga reparationer var värda att göra. Därmed påbörjas den nuvarande kyrkans historia.
Den första grundstenen, som finns att se längst ned på den östra väggen, lades på plats 20 september 1760. Byggnationen skedde i maklig takt, så invigningen skedde först 43 år senare, den 3 september 1803.
Kyrkan byggdes i nyklassicistisk stil. Med ett temporär klockstapel i trä då de pengar som samlats in till bygget aldrig räckte till för att bygga ett torn.
Men den temporära lösningen kan väl sägas ha blivit permanent så här 214 år senare.

The very first chapel in Vaxholm is believed to have been built sometime during the 16th century, where the currnet customs house stands at Kastellsundet.
When Vaxholm was to be converted into an city in the 17th century, it was decided that a larger church was be built.
Exactly where it was located is unknown. But from a av copperplate it is possible to assume that the church was located near Kastellsundet.
What is know is that an flash stroke destroyed the church tower in 1735. 11 years later the state of the church was so bad that no repairs were worth doing. Thus begins the history of the present church.
The first foundation stone, which appears at the bottom of the east wall, was laid on September 20, 1760. The construction took place at a leisurely pace, so the opening took place 43 years later, September 3, 1803.
The church was built in neoclassical style. With a temporary timber bell, as the money collected for the building run about being able to build an tower.
But the temporary solution can be said to have become permanent 214 years later.
