The Barrow War Memorial takes pride of place on a section of the village green.
Made from Portland stone it is an obelisk mounted on a three-stepped base. It’s surrounded by an iron link fence on concrete pillars.
There are 33 names for World War 1 and 11 for World War 2. The face to the memorial was renovated by being recut in 1990. The original memorial was unveiled on 28 December 1920 by Captain Owen A Clark. It was built by H G Neville & Son. Details of the unveiling appeared in the Bury and Norwich Post on 3 December 1920.
To find the cache you’ll need to collect some numbers from the memorial:
N52. A.0BC
E000.CD.EFG
A = The two numbers after H. Sharp’s name
B = Number before Grenadier Gds plus 7
C = Number of concrete pillars on one side of the memorial
D = Number after William Sale’s name
EFG = Date on the front of the memorial at the bottom of the script that starts ‘The Memorial was erected…’ 19E4 - F9G9
Parking is available near the memorial and also at the final GZ.
