Who is Sara Maude Mason? Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

rj4wd: The Park is still closed due to a lot of tree damage from Hurricane Irma. I've retrieved the cache and will enable the cache again when the park is re-opened.

Geocache Description:

Short 1/4 mile walk and grab down a well maintained dirt path.

Hidden in the little town of Howey In The Hills, Florida, you'll find this little boardwalk that takes you for a journey through the wetlands of Little Lake Harris.  Along the board walk you'll find educational signs pointing out various species of vegetation, trees and native wildlife.  The boardwalk is named after Sara Maude Mason.  Mrs. Mason was born in 1898, and later became an Elementary School Teacher in Howey.  In 1960, the land that is now the preserve was donated to the town of Howey by the Graham family.  Mrs. Mason was a fierce proponent of saving these wetlands from future development. She wrote multiple letters in the 1980's to the town council encouraging the preservation of this land.  In 1990, the land was designated as a preserve and in 1992 was dedicated in her honor.

Once you've taken the time to find this Cache take a stroll along the board walk in honor of Mrs. Sara Maude Mason.

This cache can be found within a 1/4 mile walk from either parking waypoint.  You'll be looking for a camouflaged pill bottle which will contain the log and enough room for small tradables.  Please bring your own pen to sign the log.

After bushwhacking for a cache in the Ocala forest earlier this year and finding out how bad the ticks were, I placed this Cache with NO BUSHWHACKING needed in mind.  Keep in mind, this is Florida, you are walking in the woods, check for ticks anyway.  If you park at one of the indicated parking waypoints, you will only have to walk along a nicely maintained dirt path.  The cache is NOT on the boardwalk.
