This cache is located near a popular baseball field. Baseball is a very important pasttime in Lexington. The Blowfish are Lexington’s Coastal Plain League Baseball team. They were named to honor the greatest musical group in the history of the Midlands, Hootie and the Blowfish. In fact, on opening night, the Blowfish drummer Jim “Soni” Sonefeld delivered the first pitch.
The owner of the Blowfish, an astronomy buff, dedicated the 2017 season to promoting the eclipse and Lexington County. They developed special eclipse jerseys, which they auctioned off to benefit the local elementary schools. They will also be opening the stadium during the eclipse for a free and safe viewing station.
