Geocache Description:

The rating on this cache should tell you that some special equipment and specialist knowledge will be needed. The equipment can be hired when you get to where it is needed and costs under £10. Most of the hunt is suitable for children but parents will need to decide if they think the final location is suitable for their children; safety equipment is available and must be used.

Please note the changed clues below.

All elements of this cache are within a 30 mile radius of the given coordinates. However, we do not recommend this a starting point. Please note that the location of the fourth cache has changed and so you need to check the first three very carefully if you have already been working out some of the clues.

To find this cache you must first solve three clues, each of which will take you to a virtual cache. The three virtual caches will give you the location of a fourth cache. When you get to the 4th cache which gives you the final cache coordinates we would recommend that you park away from it and go by foot - it is a very pleasant walk. Also, for reasons that will be obvious when you find it, you must replace it very carefully. The fourth cache will give you the location of the Wildcat cache itself. We recommend that you do some research and solve the first three clues before setting out to find the virtual caches. We think that this will probably take all day but it does have an interesting mix of locations. There are toilets and other facilities available.

Visit the three virtual caches to find the location of the fourth cache which is hidden at

Virtual Cache 1
What is the link between the following two phrases?

  • Vintners use two, Dyers use one but the Crown uses none
  • Bazalgette started to clean it up

Find our source of inspiration for this clue and you will find two dates.
The first two numbers of the first date gives you 'h' and 'm', the fourth number gives you 'j'. The second number of the second date gives you 'd'.

Virtual Cache 2

Once you have found the fourth cache you will need to ask for permission to get to the actual Wildcat cache site; tell them you are geocaching.

If you get really stuck, email us with where you have got to and we will try and give you another clue.

When you find the Wildcat send us a description of the box and we will send you a cache card (which we forgot to put in the box!!)

The original contents of the cache were:

  • A Royal Doulton 'golf ball' paper weight
  • A multi-tool
  • Juggling balls
  • Anchor keyring
  • Cointreau shot glasses
  • A mug
  • Virgin Atlantic First Class bag + keyring
  • Log book
