This cache is dedicated to the fond memory of outforthehunt's GC45CC - Ye Ole Survey Monuments (YOSM) Cache.
It’s objective was:
“The cache will be moved around the UK and Geocachers from all areas will get a chance to log it. You will be searching for a specific survey monument, pillar, surface block, rivet, or bolt. Any of the past posted trigs can be logged.”
For over 15 years that was true. During that time it resided in 755 locations around the UK and was visited by over 3000 cachers recording more than 24000 finds and allotting 691 favourite points, until suddenly, and without warning, it all ended.

Sometime around 2010 I (sniffadogz) started the generation of the YOSM statistics and development of the website to display them. In recent years Mark (Orlando's Rat ) joined the team to take on the data collection activity. However, all good things must come to an end and the YOSM website has now been closed down. Ye Ole Survey Monument (YOSM) is a captivating series of caches that pays homage to the remarkable legacy of OutForTheHunt's YSM series (GC45CC).
YOSM caches are strategically positioned at or near Trig Points. These triangulation stations have played a pivotal role as surveying landmarks, contributing to the mapping of expansive territories.
Some of these points, bearing historical significance, might now be situated on private land or have vanished with time. As a result, the caches are artfully placed in close proximity, reverently acknowledging the historical importance of these survey monuments.
