The largest crater lake in Europe 66

 The largest crater lake in Europe, we are in Katajalahti, cache 66. In the lush Katajalahti you can see a cross-section of the birds of Lappajärvi.
124 species of birds and possibly up to 138 species of birds have been found to be nesting in the Lappajärvi area. Many bays on the lake provide nesting places for birds.

 The lush and shallow Katajalahti Bay is perhaps the best bird watching spot on Lake Lappajärvi. Five species of seagulls, three species of grebes, fish tern, sred-breasted merganser, northern pintail duck,  northern shoveler, wigeon, eurasian coot and reeves have been observed here. During the migration, you can seek temminck's stint, redshank and smew. In autumn, great cormorant can be seen in nearby Isokari.

 Here's one of the birds you see on the beach: Goosader (Mergus merganser) is a big water bird. It is a skilled diver who catches small fish and shellfish from the water. It is nesting in a tree cavity, under a building or stone, in a juniper tree or in a birdhouse. We can be proud of Lappajärvi's Isocoskeleton because the species has been classified as sighted because of the decline of the population.

Euroopan suurin kraatterijärvi 66

 Euroopan suurin kraatterijärvi ympäri-kierroksella olemme Katajalahdessa, kätköllä 66.  Rehevällä Katajalahdella voi nähdä läpileikkauksen Lappajärven linnustosta.

 Lappajärven alueella on todettu pesivän varmasti 124 lintulajia ja mahdollisesti jopa 138 lintulajia. Järven monet lahdet tarjoavat linnuille pesäpaikkoja.

 Rehevä ja matalarantainen Katajalahti on Lappajärven ehkä parhain lintujen havaintopaikka. Täällä on havaittu mm viittä lokkilajia, kolmea uikkulajia, kalatiiraa, tukkakoskeloa, jouhisorsaa, lapasorsaa, haapanaa, nokikanaa ja suokukkoa. Muuttoaikana Katajalahdella voi piipahtaa lapinsirrejä, punajalkavikloja ja uiveloita. Syksyisin läheisellä Isokarilla voi nähdä merimetsoja.

 Tässä yhdestä rannalla tavattavasta linnusta: Isokoskelo (Mergus merganser) on iso vesilintu. Se on taitava kokosukeltaja, joka pyydystää vedestä pikkukaloja, simpukoita ja äyriäisiä. Se pesii puunkolossa, rakennuksen tai kiven alla, katajikossa tai pöntössä. Lappajärven Isokoskeloista voi olla ylpeä, koska laji on luokiteltu silmälläpidettäväksi, koska kannassa on havaittu taantumusta.
