Geocache Description:

The Monroe County Geocaching series aims to connect residents and visitors to natural areas that have been permanently protected with funds from the County Open Space Bond. The HJP Kids Cache @ the Old Mill in Sciota is one of six Regional Kids Caches focused on one of the key principles of geocaching... if you take something leave something. Adventurous little ones can enjoy the hunt for this "treasure chest" style cache, filled with small tokens, and may select one item to take home. Participants are encouraged to contribute to the chest, leaving behind a token that is 1-2 inches in size for the next kid to find. Please remember: When replacing cache, hide it as you found it so the next person can enjoy the hunt! Property Background: The Old Mill was built in 1800 on the site of the original Brinker's Mill, a log structure. The site assumed prominence in 1779, when the Sullivan Expedition was dispatched by Gen. Washington to undertake a scorched earth removal of the British allied Iroquois from the Finger Lakes Region. The Expedition left Easton, PA on June 18, and shortly thereafter encamped near the mill, which served as a storehouse and advance post for this unit of some 4,000 men. Walk to the property north of the mill, which was preserved by Hamilton Township in order to protect and conserve this significant historic resource from development pressures. Enjoy the view of the waterfall and the downstream gorge!
