Geocache Description:

Med Cache is placed along the river trail. You will need a boat or kayak to reach this location. No motorized boats are allowed. GZ is not accessible from the land. There is a small walk (25-30 yards) to the boat launch from the parking lot. To the right of boat launch is a water fall use caution and stay clear. The water level of the pond/river can fluctuate greatly dependent on rain fall; increased water flow will increase the difficulty level.

These caches were placed by LGVHB – Last Green Valley Hiker Brothers, consisting of CacheDweeb & Kochmedic. I am a member of the Thompson Trails Committee and have permission to place caches along all Thompson trails. This area is often over looked so I have placed this series here in hopes of increasing use of the pond and trails. The committee meets Bi Monthly on the first Monday of the month at the Thompson town hall. This trail is maintained by volunteer committee members. Please check out the other caches placed along the trail and river.

Kayaks or Canoe

Pond access is right behind Knights of Columbus. This pond is formed by a dam built to harness the power of water. The dam (Cluett Peabody Dam) was built to power mills for Cluett and Peabody shirt manufactures of a by gone day. The river is known as The French River and the pond is now known as North Grosvenordale Pond. The pond can be paddled up to the old power plant and dam just over a mile up river. Minimal current for the majority of the paddle, increased current up near the upper dam (moderate at best).

In the area of the pond there is another Thompson trail that winds through historic mill village, along French River and pond to the left. Entire trail is an easy to moderate 3.2 mile trek. This is an out and back trail that has some portions that are paved, another section of crushed gravel and a moderate hiking trail for the final .75 mile at the end. With parking at various locations along the trail you could do different sections as you choose.
