 The largest crater lake in Europe, we are at cache 13, Leväniemi.

 Lappajärvi is the central lake of the Ähtävä River and is of great importance for equalizing water quality and discharges. There are approximately two equally large pools in Lappajärvi, the second deepest being the Veantenen Draft (36m), located north of Veanteen island. The deepest point of the lake is the Ahola Deep (38m), located west of Itäkylä. Lappajärvi is otherwise quite shallow, with an average depth of about 7.4 meters.

 Lappajärvi on Ähtävänjoen vesistön keskusjärvi, ja sillä onkin suuri merkitys vedenlaadun ja virtaamien tasaajana. Lappajärvessä on suunnilleen kaksi yhtä suurta allasta, joista toiseksi syvin on Veanteensyväys (36m), joka sijaitsee Veanteensaaren pohjoispuolella. Järven syvin kohta on Aholan syvänne (38m) , joka sijaitsee Itäkylän kohdilta länteen. Lappajärvi on muuten melko matala, keskisyvyys on noin 7,4 metriä.
