On the Fundy Trail east of St. Martins. A Cache for nature lovers!
Drive to the end of the Fundy Trail Parkway then cross the Big Salmon River footbridge and TAKE THE SCENIC FOOTPATH along the river towards Hearst Lodge. Cache is about 40 minutes or 3/4 mile along the trail from the end of the suspension bridge. The trail is rated as "challenging" which is accurate; some climbing, lots of roots and rocks. If you like to swim, bring your bathing suit/trunks, there are several swimming holes along the way! Continue on to Hearst Lodge for a rest or to refill your water bottles for the trip back.
The cache is located in a beautiful area of the trail just at the end of a bridge spanning a sheer rock gorge. It is a small plastic camo'd bottle with a log sheet and a few SMALL traders. Reception is poor in this area but you should be able to get a reading from the very center of the bridge. The cache is only about 10'-15' up from the path, PLEASE don't trample the delicate flora & fauna in the area.
The Fundy Trail is open to vehicular traffic from the Victoria Day weekend in May thru the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend in October with an admittance fee of $5.08 per person. It is a 13 km hike from the main gate to the Interpretive Center when the park is closed. (visit link)
AS ALWAYS, PLEASE LEAVE THE CACHE AS WELL OR BETTER HIDDEN THAN YOU FOUND IT!
