Geocache Description:

Cache In Trash Out is Geocachers' way giving back to the community and being environmentally conscious. Please join the Crosswinds Cache Crew for an afternoon of cleanup at Crosswinds Marsh.

CITO event Come help show your appreciation for the park's support of geocaching by helping to spruce up the marsh.  There will be CITO opportunities on land or jump into one of the park's provided canoes to reach some of the more remote areas of the marsh.   Please note that personal watercrafts are prohibited at the marsh.  We will be meeting at the parking lot at noon to begin the cleanup.  The park will be providing canoes (and required life jackets), trash bags, and buckets.  Like all CITO events you should be sure to bring gloves, boots, and old clothes for the clean-up (and a change of clothes for afterwards if needed).  Also please bring a long handled net if available.  Volunteers will receive a commemorative collectable and be entered into the FTF drawing for the new caches publishing that day.  The event will end at 2:30 PM,   For more information please visit, www.cmm17.com

Crosswinds Marsh is one of the largest man-made wetlands in the country.  It was built to replace the wetlands that were paved over to expand Wayne County's Detroit Metro Airport (the McNamara terminal).   Wayne County, together with Sumpter Township, purchased over 900 acres of farmland that believe it or not, was once wetland that had been converted into farm fields by draining the land in a process that took over a year.   They flooded former farm fields, planted new wetland plants and transplanted endangered species from metro Airport.  The area is managed by the Wayne County Parks.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the Hobby Day geocaching event at Crosswinds Marsh on August 12th. See www.cmm17.com.
