Do prohlubně uklouzl osmapadesátiletý Miroslav Šudák. V okolí bylo několik lidí. Z přihlížejících se ho rozhodla zachránit pětačtyřicetiletá Marie Bartošová. Muž se zachytil o kabely a díky pomoci Marie Bartošové se dokázal vysoukat nahoru. Pod jeho zachránkyní se ale prolomila další část povrchu. Spadla do hlubin. Zmizela. Přivolaným hasičům se jí nepodařilo zachránit. V kalné vodě se utopila. Její tělo se dodnes nenašlo. Tragédii způsobilo staré litinové potrubí z roku 1872, z něhož již týden před propadem vozovky začala tryskat v podzemí voda a vymlela 300 krychlových metrů hlíny. Nikdo to nezaznamenal, i když na povrchu byl běžný provoz a po kolejích jezdily tramvaje.
February 15, 1976. Few minutes before midday. Part of the pavement on the tram stop fell through the ground. It was before hospital on Pekařská Street in Brno. Fifty-eight-year old man Miroslav Šudák fell into the hole. He was surrounded by few people. One of this bystanders - Marie Bartošová - decided to save him. The man was stuck by cables and thanks to the help of Marie, he was able to get back up. But the next part of the surface - under Marie - fell through the ground. She fell into depths. She was gone. There were firefighters but they weren't able to save her. She was drowned. But her body hasn't been found up to now. This catastrophe was caused because of the old cast iron pipeline from the year of manufacture 1872. The water from this pipeline began to leak one week before falling the ground. The water eroded 300 cubic meters of the ground. Nobody noticed it although there was common traffic and the trams were going on tramlines.
