Police Bay is the larger sister beach to Petite Police, located on the southernmost coast of Mahé, the Seychelles’ largest island. Despite the offshore coral reef, the water here is deep and choppy, making it unsuitable for swimming. The wild, natural scenery here can be rather imposing, contrasting the calm, gentle atmosphere elsewhere in the Seychelles, but providing a welcome change to the ‘traditional’ Seychelles experience.
Getting to Police Bay is simple enough, with parking available at Petite Police, about a five-minute walk away. Alternatively, there is a bus stop at Anse Bazzarca, located along the coast from Police Bay, although the bus service here is infrequent.
As previously suggested, Police Bay is unsuitable for swimming due to the deep, choppy water. That said, it is precisely these conditions that make Police Bay a good spot for surfing, with the waves helping rather than hindering holidaymakers who wish to try this out during their holiday. The area is also suitable for scuba diving thanks to the underwater scenery offshore from the beach. Besides that, it can be hard to see the appeal of the beach, but the incredible scenery of rocks, waves, and the old coral formations that line sections of the beach make for a unique experience.

Police Bay est la grande soeur de la Petite Police et est située sur la côte méridionale de Mahé, la plus grande île des Syechelles. Malgré le récif au large, la mer y est profonde et agitée, ce qui la rend impropre à la baignade. Les paysages naturels et sauvages peuvent être impressionner et contrastent fortement avec la calme et douce atmosphère générale des Seychelles. Visiter cette baie constitue un changement intéressant par rapport à l’expérience “traditionnelle” des Seychelles que font les touristes.
L’accès à Police Bay se fait facilement, grâce à un parking situé à Petite Police, à environ cinq minutes de marche. Une alternative consiste à venir en bus. Celui-ci s’arrête à Anse Bazzarca, le long de Police Bay, bien que le service ne soit pas régulier.
Comme évoqué précédemment, Police Bay n’est pas adaptée à la baignade à cause de la mer profonde et agitée. Toutefois, ce sont exactement ces conditions qui font de Police Bay un bon emplacement pour le surf, les vagues n’étant pas un obstacle, bien au contraire. La zone est aussi favorable à la plongée sous-marine grâce aux paysages sous-marins au large de la plage. En dehors de ces possibilités, s’il est difficile d’entrevoir les atouts de la plage, celle-ci dispose néanmoins d’un incroyable paysage de rochers, de vagues et d’anciennes formations de corail qui la bordent partiellement pour une expérience unique.

Die Police Bay ist die große Schwester der “Petite Police” und befindet sich am südlichsten Ende von Mahé, der größten Insel der Seychellen. Auch wenn dieser Strand ein vorgelagertes Riff hat, so ist das Meer hier tief und die Wellen sehr hoch, wodurch Schwimmen nicht sicher ist. Die wilde und natürliche Kulisse ist jedoch sehr eindrucksvoll und ein schöner Kontrast zur ruhigen und sanften Atmosphäre an vielen anderen Orten der Seychellen – eine willkommene Abwechslung für jeden Seychellen-Urlauber.
Was die Erreichbarkeit angeht, so zählt dieser Strand nicht zu den leichtesten. Die nächsten Parkmöglichkeiten gibt es erst an der Petite Police (etwa fünf Minuten zu Fuß) und die Bushaltestelle liegt an der Anse Bazarca, die etwas weiter nordwestlich liegt und nur unregelmäßig angefahren wird.
Wer die Police Bay besucht, sollte es bei einem Spaziergang belassen und nicht ins Meer gehen, denn das kann hier sehr gefährlich sein. Neben den starken Strömungen sind es vor allem die hohen Wellen, die mit großer Kraft an das Ufer prallen. Diese Eigenschaft macht die Police Bay jedoch zu einem guten Spot für (sichere) Surfer, die hier optimale Bedingungen vorfinden. Die Police Bay lockt aber eher mit ihrer malerischen Kulisse, die hier sehr ursprünglich und wild ist. Von Juni bis September verschwindet der Sand der Police Bay durch die Strömungen im Meer, wodurch am Ufer ein altes Korallenriff freiliegt.
