Este es un agradable y sencillo EarthCache para geocachers que pasa por esta inusual e interesante ubicación.

La isla surgió hace unos 15 millones de años como producto del hotspot canario. La isla, junto con otros, surgió después de la desintegración de las placas continentales africana y americana. Las mayores erupciones registradas ocurrieron entre 1730 y 1736 en el área ahora designada Parque Nacional Timanfaya.
Varios tipos de erupciones volcánicas, durante las cuales lava, tephra (ceniza, lapilli, bombas volcánicas y bloques), y diversos gases son expulsados de una fosa volcánica - han sido distinguidos por volcanólogos.
Éstos se nombran a menudo después de volcanes famosos donde ese tipo de comportamiento se ha observado. Algunos volcanes pueden exhibir solamente un tipo característico de la erupción durante un período de actividad, mientras que otros pueden exhibir una secuencia entera de tipos todo en una serie eruptiva.

This is a nice straightforward EarthCache for geocachers passing this unusual and interesting location.
Once you have completed the EarthCache there is also a nice traditional cache near by (GC35RPX) for you to find.
Lanzarote is the easternmost island of the Canary Islands and has a volcanic origin. It was born through fiery eruptions and has solidified lava streams as well as extravagant rock formations.
The island emerged about 15 million years ago as product of the Canary hotspot. The island, along with others, emerged after the breakup of the African and the American continental plates. The greatest recorded eruptions occurred between 1730 and 1736 in the area now designated Timanfaya National Park.
Several types of volcanic eruptions —during which lava, tephra (ash, lapilli, volcanic bombs and blocks), and assorted gases are expelled from a volcanic vent or fissure—have been distinguished by volcanologists. These are often named after famous volcanoes where that type of behavior has been observed.
Some volcanoes may exhibit only one characteristic type of eruption during a period of activity, while others may display an entire sequence of types all in one eruptive series.
There are three different types of eruptions. The most well-observed are magmatic eruptions, which involve the decompression of gas within magma that propels it forward. Phreatomagmatic eruptions are another type of volcanic eruption, driven by the compression of gas within magma, the direct opposite of the process powering magmatic activity. The third eruptive type is the phreatic eruption, which is driven by the superheating of steam via contact with magma; these eruptive types often exhibit no magmatic release, instead causing the granulation of existing rock.
Now for the fun part, In order to log this EarthCache you will be required to email us through our profile page or use the message centre to send us the answers to the following questions after your visit to the location.
A photo on your found log is now a logging requirement (EarthCache guidelines) anyone logging a find without a photo will have the log deleted.
1. Please explain what you see whilst standing at the GZ.
2. Explain what material you believe this is and why?
3. Describe the colour and the texture of the stone pillars/statues.
4. On the ground you will see the debris from the pillars/statues, please examine this and describe what colours you can see.
5. Please estimate the height of the tallest pillar/statue you see at the GZ.
6. In order to evidence that you have visited the location a photo of you/GPS at the GZ must be posted on the find log.
