This month brings you with a fantastic opportunity to visit parts of Bull Run Regional Park and improve their appearance as well as removing stuff like deer, squirrel, and raccoon choking hazards and whatever else flows south from I -66. The CITO will consist of three teams. Everyone needs to show up at the GZ and assignments will be made there. Two of the teams will start at the “Bull Run – Occoquantrail head” and head to the “Lower Cub Run Start.” Team 1 will go north to the “Team 1 Stop.” Team 2 will go south to the “Team 2 Stop.” Team 3 will drive to the “North County Trail Parking” waypoint and work their way up from the “North County Trailhead” along the east side of Cub Run to I-66 to the "Team 3 Stop” waypoint.
The park will not be providing us with recycling and trash bags, gloves, or tools. Please feel free to bring your own gloves if desired, but it is not necessary. Also it is recommended that you wear waterproof shoes or boots since not only is part of the area a swamp, but there might be some stream crossings (depending upon the weather. While this is not likely to be a "dirty" cleanup, you will be picking up all kinds of garbage and recyclables that have washed down from I-66 and north.
*Please note that this cleanup is located along Cub Run and there are places where the banks are very steep. Children are welcome and encouraged to participate! However, all children must be accompanied by an adult while working along the shoreline for safety purposes. Thank you.
** The normal $5 per day parking fee will be waived by the Park for all CITO participants. All you need to do is tell the Ranger at the gate that you are here for the "NoVAGO Bull Run CITO Event" and there will be no fee to enter the Park on Sunday.
*** Note that Team 1 should not proceed any further than the “Team 1 Stop” waypoint. This is because the banks of Cub Run become too steep to clean up safely. Also the area north of this point is downrange of the Bun Run Shooting Center. The Team 1 stop waypoint is over ¼ mile off at 3 o’clock from the closest range, which is an archery range.
